ONTARIO'S ACTION PLAN FOR HEALTH CARE
In January 2012, the provincial government launched an action plan to transform the healthcare system and deal with demographic changes and the provincial deficit. In the report the government describes how it is fiscally beneficial to spend money on preventative measures that will help maintain the population’s health rather than endure the expense of treating illness or disease once it has progressed.
Highlights of the action plan:
Highlights of the action plan:
- Make responsible decisions regarding funding priorities and ensure funding is distributed in a manner that is gives the best value.
- Provide new measures to prevent illness in the first place and to help Ontarians stay healthy.
- Give Ontarians better access to family doctors and nurse practitioners — through after hours care , same-day and next-day appointments.
- Support Ontario’s seniors who want to live independently at home, by providing more home care supports.
- Move routine procedures into specialized not-for-profit clinics in instances where it’s clear that these clinics can provide patients with safe, high-quality care at better value.
"Since launching the Wait Time Strategy, our government has built a co-ordinated
system where patients can access vital services in a timely manner. The CIHI report
clearly shows that we’re on the right track in Ontario, providing health care for Ontarians
where and when they need it, and making us the national leader in wait times."
